Highlights of Puerto Vallarta
Romantic Zone
On the other side of the Cuale River you’ll find this fascinating, colorful and cosmopolitan neighborhood, known as the LGBT area, with trendy restaurants, plazas, coffee shops, and a lively nightlife to enjoy at sundown.
This area, also known as Olas Altas or South Side, attracts visitors with its authentic Mexican style, cobbled streets and picturesque facades. Art and culture play an important role in this area, so you are sure to find galleries with more than a 60-year trajectory exhibiting local and foreign artwork.
The Lázaro Cardenas Park (also now known as The Tile Park) is a must-stop. Admire the unique mosaic designs embellished into its benches, columns, planters, and walls that turn it into an open-air gallery.
At this same spot, on Saturday mornings during high season, you can visit the Olas Altas Farmers Market, the first market in the bay with a handmade-homegrown concept, where you will find one-of-a-kind items made by local artisans, fresh produce, local and international delights, live music and so much more!
MALECON BOARDWALK
Puerto Vallarta’s vibrant Malecon has been the town’s spirit since its foundation. The iconic Malecon is peppered with sculptures by renowned artists, art and crafts galleries, shops and restaurants, and it is considered the meeting point par excellence.

Teatro Vallarta – 912 Seat State of the Art Theatre

Since its launch, the theater has hosted a wealth of national and international shows, including the Russian State Ballet, the world-renowned Filippa Giordano pop opera singer, the Vagina Monologues and the spectacular must-see Fandango extravaganza. The theater also houses an exceptional modern art gallery featuring some of Mexico’s most up-and-coming talent.
Day trip to the Marietas Islands- an incredible experience not to miss
Visiting the Marietas Islands (Islas Marietas) is still, without a doubt, one of the day trips to add to your honeymoon in Puerto Vallarta.
Honeymooners will want to visit “Lovers’ Beach”, this impressive local attraction is worth the trip.
The Marieta islands are a real treasure but not always. In the early 1900’s they were used as targets in military bombing exercises, plus they were a rich fishing ground for the locals. These damaging activities would have continued, had it not been for the intervention, of, among others, Jacques-Yves Cousteau in the 1960s as he put an end to those things, since then they have been protected from overfishing and human activities, including bombshells…
The Marietas are comprised of 2 uninhabited islands, a few miles off the North Coast of the Banderas Bay of what is called the Riviera Nayarit (closest town is Punta de Mita – see the location map). There are two islands 900 meters from each other, that are around 60,000 years old, created by volcanic activity. To the East is the smallest one called Isla Redonda (Round Island), it’s some 1000 meters long and 500 meters at its widest point, it is also the one closest to land and offers the underground crater beach on the northern end of the island. The largest island is the one to the West, Isla Larga (Long Island), some 900 meters long and 400
