Language – Apart from English, New Zealand has two other official languages: Māori and New Zealand sign language.

Currency – New Zealand’s unit of currency is the dollar (NZ$). All major credit cards can be used in New Zealand, with Visa and MasterCard accepted most widely.

Time Zone – New Zealand Standard Time zone is 12 hours ahead of Greenwich Mean Time (GMT+12). The time for the Chatham Islands archipelago, the smallest region of New Zealand, is 45 minutes in advance of New Zealand Standard Time.

Electricity – New Zealand’s electricity supply runs at 230/240 volts, and they use angled two or three pin plugs (the same as Australia and parts of Asia). (110 volt/60 cycle, suitable for U.S. appliances)

Climate – New Zealand’s seasons are at opposite times to those in the northern hemisphere. December to February is summer; March to May is autumn; June to August is winter; and September to November is spring.

Temperatures range from 21 – 32 degrees celsius (70 – 90F) in the summer to 1.5 – 15.5 degrees celsius (35 – 60F) in the winter. The further south you go, the colder you will get – temperatures are significantly lower in Queenstown than in Auckland.
