Betty’s Hope Sugar Plantation dates back to 1651

Up for a little history on your Antigua Honeymoon?  Couples who love to explore the history of where they are traveling will enjoy touring and visiting Betty Hope’s sugar plantation, and the site where one of the two sugar mill towers has been fully restored complete with sails. With a small interpretation Centre, interpretation signage throughout the estate, this heritage landmark is well worth a visit. Betty’s Hope was one of the earliest sugar plantations, dating to 1651.

Devil’s Bridge, a great honeymoon photo opportunity

Devil’s Bridge, located outside the village of Willikies, offers an incredible glimpse into Antigua’s natural formation. Composed of limestone rock, the rugged terrain of Devil’s Bridge is the result of millions of years of ancient reef formation.

Shirley Heights Lookout, one of the best places to visit on your Antigua Honeymoon

Shirley Heights is a restored military lookout and gun battery. The Lookouthigh point (about 490 ft.) affords a superb view of English and Falmouth Harbors, the best view in Antigua. The view is spectacular, especially at sunset and early evening when all of English Harbor is all lit up and a great place for some romantic walks and picture taking on your honeymoon in Antigua.

St. John’s Cathedral built in 1720

Two St. John’s Anglican Churches have already stood on the site of the present cathedral. The first was built of wood as early as 1681, The second was constructed with English brick about 1720 when the first fell in disrepair and became too small.

Cricket at Sir Vivian Cricket Stadium

Antiguan’s and Barbudan’s are cricket-lovers and the country has produced four of the greatest West Indies Test cricket players. The famous Antigua Recreation Grounds, The Sir Vivian Cricket Stadium is one of the finest venues in the Caribbean to take in a local, regional, or international Cricket match.  on your Honeymoon in Antigua consider a visit to the Antigua and Barbuda Museum to see the infamous cricket bat of Sir Vivian Richards, native Antiguan, former captain of the West Indies Cricket Team, and one of the greatest batsmen of all time and an Antigua National Hero.

Cricket matches are played throughout the island during the Cricket season which runs from January – July.

Frigate Bird Sanctuary

Antigua’s sister island Barbuda, is home to the largest Frigate Bird Colony in the western hemisphere. This colony is located in the capital of Barbuda – Codrington – in the Codrington Lagoon, and is only accessible by a short boat trip with a knowledgeable tour guide.

Antigua and Barbuda Mango Festival

The two-day event showcases a variety of mangoes that will delight passionate mango-lovers. The Mango stalls overflow, with a selection of mangoes, mango trees on sale, and the very best mango treats such as jams, pepper sauces, wines, smoothies, pastries, ice-creams, scented candles and soaps all made in Antigua and Barbuda.

Learn to Sail

Considered the Sailing Capital of the Caribbean, Antigua is the perfect honeymoon destination for couples who want to learn to sail.  lessons and programs are available at hotels such as Nonsuch Bay, which offers a dedicated centre (40knots.net) or with OnDeck Antigua or National Sailing Academy in English Harbour, the only RYA (Royal Yachting Association) registered dinghy training centre in the Caribbean. There is also a women’s only sailing school option.

Snorkeling in the crystal clear ocean- a favorite Antigua Honeymoon Activity

Antigua offers excellent snorkeling opportunities for those interested in life under the sea, Long Bay is the perfect spot. For the more adventurous, explore the beauty of Cades Reef, Paradise Reef/Andes and off-shore islands such as Green Island. The Pillars of Hercules spectacular limestone rock formation that guards the entrance to English Harbour is a must see.
