Kauai, a Stunningly Beautiful Honeymoon Island Destination

10 Reasons Why Kauai is the Ultimate Hawaiian Honeymoon Island

We love all the islands in Hawaii but have found that Kauai has a special magical quality that most couples overlook when planning their Hawaiian honeymoon. Many couples do not realize how magnificent Kauai really is, and that Kauai has the 2nd to highest sea cliffs in the world ( 1st would be the island of Molokai) Kauai is the ideal Hawaiian island for couples looking for stunning scenery, hiking, secluded beaches and a more unspoiled Hawaiian island to explore.

#1- You are in America, no need to leave the USA

Kauai is not only one of the most beautiful islands in the world, it is conveniently located in the USA with easy flights from most major cities and nonstop flights from the west coast.

#2- Some of the most spectacular scenery in the world

Most world travelers would agree Kauai is hard to beat when it comes to scenic beauty. The Napali Coast is simply one of the most incredible coastlines you will ever see and if you go on a cruise along this coastline you might see dolphins and whales year-round. The Waimea Canyon is equally stunning.

#3- Secluded and unspoiled by major tourism

Kauai has miraculously been kept void of major crowds and has that off the beaten path feel. You can still drive up to a beach with few tourists to be seen.

#4– A hikers and Kayakers paradise

The opportunities are endless for hiking throughout the entire island, with magnificent waterfalls, valleys, lazy rivers, and stunning mountain scenery. Kayaking along the Napali coast is one of the most scenic kayak trips in Hawaii

#5- Reasonably priced for accommodations

Kauai is still very affordable for most. There are hotels / resorts for all budgets and the cost of dining, and shopping is relatively low compared to other islands.

#6- A great variety of accommodations

Couples can choose from moderately priced cozy condos, to upscale boutique hotels and five-star luxury properties that exude the Aloha spirit. There is something for everyone.

#7- A photographers dream especially during Whale season!

The secluded beaches, rainbows, sunsets will take your breath away every day and if you are there during Whale watching season ( Nov-March) you might catch a pod of whales swimming by you

#8-The Napali Coast, some of the highest sea cliffs in the world

A coastline you have seen in movies, the unforgettable line up of cliffs and mountains that you cannot find anywhere else in the world.

#9- The favorite island of Hollywood

You can visit the movie locations of South Pacific, Six Days/ Seven Nights, Waterworld, The Thornbirds, Jurassic park, the Decedents to name a few

#10- Picnic and wanderers paradise

Couples love to just wander around find a beautiful spot to park it for the day and enjoy a secluded picnic on one of many incredible beaches.

Kauai is one of the most beautiful islands on planet earth

The perfect island paradise to explore together

MAHAULEPU BEACH- close to Grand Hyatt Kauai resort

The Mahaulepu Beach Heritage Trail leads you from the East end of Shipwrecks beach along a coastline of sand dunes, lava tubes, tide pools and stretches of white sand beaches perfect for beachcombing. This section of coastline includes a variety of landscapes to explore including; lava tubes, sandstone cliffs, blowholes and isolated coves that make this a fantastic place to discover on foot. Tread lightly as you discover this sacred part of the island.

POLIHALE BEACH- One of the longest stretches of beach in Kauai

Drive can be a bit crazy, dirt/gravel road for 20 minutes but worth it if you have the time:

Polihale Beach is by far the longest stretch of beach in the state of Hawaii. Polihale Beach and State Park is located at the end of Highway 50 and is accessed down an unpaved old cane haul road. The seventeen mile stretch of white sand beach and sand dunes offer endless beach-combing and shelling fun. Polihale Beach sits at the end of the Napali coast and the edge of the Mana Plains. This is a spectacular stretch of wilderness, with 100-foot sand dunes, desert cactus and remarkable sunsets over the Forbidden Island of Niihau.

Waimea Canyon… It is known as the “Grand Canyon of the Pacific”

It is an easy drive from the Poipu area. Keep your eye out for Hawaii’s State Bird the Nene, a type of goose found only in Hawaii. Take Route 550A and B from Waimea through the Waimea Canyon and into Kokee State Park. Be sure to stop at Kalalau Valley and Puuokila Lookouts for amazing views!

Since you are already in Waimea, continue to the West/North on Route 50 at the end of the road you will continue to drive back through 5 miles of pineapple fields and you will exit onto Polihale Beach in the Polihale State Park. This is an amazing white sand beach that stretches as far as the eye can see!! It is untouched with no resorts, yet the state has provided facilities for camping and day use. Be careful…the wide beach of soft white sand looks inviting, but it is likely to be scorching hot from the sun.

Hanalei, the cutest small town on the North Shore of Kauai

Hanalei is one of the most charming places in Kauai, a town that is lost in the past, truly Old Hawaiian charm. Couples will find many good little cafes, and can enjoy a block of shave ice to cool off.

The public beach access is at each end of the town. The one on the east end of town is a nice wide beach, many body surfers along here. Good body surfing….rent a board from a shop in town.

The dock to the right is where they filmed a lot of scenes in the South Pacific!

This is a beach where many celebrities have homes, including David Crosby and Graham Nash ( singer-songwriters). The public beach access at the far end of town has more trees and some picnic tables. It is farther away from the main beach area.

Continue west to smaller and smaller towns, many one-lane bridges, lovely beaches, many of them quite private. Tunnels is a beautiful beach, parking is hard to find but not impossible (you just have to park along the road). We saw large sea turtles frolicking in the waves here last year. Kee Beach is the last beach where the Napali trails for hiking begin. Of course, you can take a boat or helicopter to see this area as well.

Holoholo Charters takes you to the forbidden island of Niihau

No other company offers this amazing trip daily. their premiere trip aboard Holo Holo begins with a continental breakfast as we head west & north to the majestic Napali Coast with waterfalls, lush valleys, and sea caves.
