Vatulele is for those who want to escape from the pressures of the Western world, yet still want to enjoy five star standards. As the resort is set in natural jungle it will not suit guests who prefer a glossy, ?bug free?, sterile environment.  This resort suits the more adventurous traveller who wants ?to get the sand between their toes?. Vatulele Fiji particularly suits outgoing people who are able to enjoy the company of others, in addition to their privacy.

Vatulele Fiji: At some times of the year there will be bugs ? even though we have a very complete, and environmentally sensitive control program. There is no wildlife in Fiji which could be considered dangerous. Falling coconuts may be the only hazard! The Resort is used as an
example of outstanding environmental development and is often described as ?hand made?.
It has been featured in design magazines worldwide, and many visitors love the attention to
detail. The ?bures? (villas) are not air conditioned.

RESORT ACTIVITIES: Vatulele Island Fiji

The legendary Red Prawns - This involves a short boat trip and pleasant fifteen-minute walk along the base of our sandstone cliffs, through tropical rainforest until finally arriving at the tidal rock pools which house Vatulele?s sacred red prawns. Along the way you will be able to view ancient petroglyphs, one of which our logo is based upon.

Cave walk - This hike takes about 30 minutes in each direction. Along the way you will be informed of the local Fijian bush medicine and see small plantations of young mulberry trees used to make tapa cloth. There are two caves, one of, which contains a crystal clear pool of water, deep enough to dive off surrounding rocks and allowing enough daylight in to see the multitude of stalegtites overhead.                                                                                                             

Hike to the Lighthouse - More of a hard walk than a hike, this trip takes approximately 25 minutes through the rainforest. The path is rocky and uneven in some places, so good walking shoes are required.                                                                                                               

Village day trip - You will be taken to one of four of Vatulele?s resident native villages, where you will meet the chief of the island, who will welcome the guest with the official Fijian Kava ceremony. The resort asks that guests dress somewhat conservatively; long skirts or shorts and have shoulders covered. At some times of the year, guests like to watch a local football game (Rugby).

Snorkelling - While you are free to snorkel at your own leisure in and around the resort, most visitors must be taken to the reef by boat, as it is actually located some distance from the shore. The boat will moor on the deep side allowing you to see the varying types of marine life as the coral wall descends. Snorkels, masks and fins are available upon request from the activities bure located on the main beach.

Scuba diving - Scuba Diving is available at the resort on a daily basis. We have
a PADI certified Gold Palm 5 star resort with two resident instructors. You will not be in large groups and your instruction will be very one-on-one. It would be difficult to find better
circumstances to obtain a scuba certification.

Massage - We have a number of Fijian therapists offering massage at an additional modest charge (approximately US$45 for one hour at current exchange rates).

DINIING AT VATULELE Island : FIJI

Vatulele is well recognised for its food, ranging from Californian to Thai, Japanese, Austral/Asian and Indian - in fact, any style that suits our glorious tropical climate and laid back lifestyle.

Fresh ingredients are flown in daily from Australia and New Zealand. Naturally there is an emphasis on seafood. Because of our all inclusive tariff, there are ample opportunities to sample the contents of our first class cellar, including unlimited French champagne!

In the welcoming warm weather, meals are taken on a terrace outside our large central pavilion overlooking the lagoon. By night, tables are set under the stars and lit by lanterns and candlelight. At full moon, the 'dining room' is usually set by the water's edge. Dining is usually communal, and hosted by the management - in the style of the Captain's table on a ship.

However, don't imagine that we ignore that special occasion or the chance to have a romantic dinner for two. There are many options for private dinners, our wine cellar, in 'The Folly', or on the beach with moon and lantern light.

Meal times at Vatulele:
Breakfast is served from 8am to 10am.
Lunch is served at 1pm, normally preceded by a pre-lunch drink.
Dinner is served at 8pm. (June, July and August 7.30pm).
Please join us for cocktails a half hour before.

Private dinners at Vatulele:
Most guests at Vatulele enjoy the experience of dining together with new friends. However if you wish you may reserve a private dinner in your bure or in one of our special locations such as the wine cellar, the library or The Folly.
